The article I will be talking about is the 2016 Olympic
games track cycling test event. To give a little background on the event, Rio
will be hosting the 2016 Olympic games, and there have been reports about the
fact that Rio may not be ready to host the games. In this article it agrees
with the fact that people did not think Rio would be ready in time. The cycling
event has changed dates, and has been moved from March 18-20 to April 29- May 1
in an attempt to have more time to install the new track, yet Rio 2016 did
issue a statement stating “There is no impact on the games-time competitions
with Olympic track cycling taking place from August 11-16 and Paralympic track
cycling from September 8-11” I think it’s amazing that Rio had more than four
years to working on being ready for the Olympic, and yet they still are pushing
back dates that was set forth. When you read the article it’s easy to see that
Rio 2016 wants people to think that they are ready and prepared for the task
that has been set in front of them, but you can tell that they may have gotten
way over their heads and that they may need some help to pull it off, rather it
be pushing back dates or bringing in extra people to work on the event with
them. The article also speaks on the fact that construction will begin in
February and that the reason it has been move to February is because of the
change in dates for the cycling test run. In the case of Rio pushing the test
run dates back to insure the track is finished, I am going to agree with this
move. The test run is to verify everything within the dome is working and that
there are no issues, so it is for the best that they keep working on building
and making sure that it is ready for the test run. I feel the best part of
pushing the test run back a month is that in won’t have an impact on the
starting date of the regular Olympics, and if there are any problems at the
point of the test run they would have more than three months to correct any and
all problems before the main event starts in August. I also think it’s smart to
push back the date they will start on construction, because it gives them a
chance to take a little my time to work on it, rather than rushing to try to
meet the date and having a lot of errors that needs to be corrected after they
have tried the test run. In concluding I really hope that Rio 2016 can keep
their word and deliver a great Olympics in 2016, and I hope that they can do it
on time without any other set backs that could cause the fans to wonder if the
Olympics will take place.
