Cleveland OH "Infamous" Cleveland

To be a fan of a Cleveland sports team takes patience, strength, and blood pressure checks regularly. Let's take a walk down the shores of Lake Erie, where a cold winter night and a Cavalier lost will send nerve pinching pain throughout your body, but we love our teams because a true Cleveland fan will ride front seat no matter how much we complain.
Let's start with the pain and suffering of the Cleveland Browns, a very historic team rich with culture and football legends such as; Jim Brown, and Bernie Kosar, and future legends Joe Thomas, and Joe Haden. The last time the Browns won a championship was 1964, since then it's been nothing but pain from there, in 1988 Earnest Byner had the infamous "Fumble", in 1996 the late Art Modell relocated us to Baltimore (who has since won two rings), yeah sure we came back in 1999 but it's been down hill from there, it's very sad when the only good thing we have going in football is the Ohio State Buckeyes (2014 Champs), are you feeling sorry for us yet?
Baseball in Cleveland was on fire in the 90's, and it has been proven that if they put a good product on the field fan will show up, but we hear all the time that the Indians don't have money to spend. I can remember the great teams we had at one point with Bartolo Colon, C.C Sabathiea, Kenny Lofton, Omar Vizquel, Jim Thome, and Manny Ramirez, but just like the Browns the Indians are known for a infamous moment. In 1997 the Cleveland Indians made to the World Series in which we faced a team from Florida who was just in their fifth year of being a MLB team, going into the seventh game of the series Cleveland was up 2-1 going into the ninth inning, we sent out our closer Jose Mesa and he blew the game, giving up a run in the ninth sending the game into extras and we ended up losing the game. Talk about bad luck.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a handful to deal with so let's start with the infamous shot, Michael Jordan tears our hearts away with a buzzard beating readjusted jump shot, sure he's the greatest of all time but this isn't about his greatness. So let's fast forward to 2003 where things are looking up and we draft Lebron James, and all is well right? No. In 2010 Lebron has the infamous "Decision" in tune to not 5, not 6, not 7. It felt like we had been stood up at prom, only Cleveland could lose a hometown star and the best player in the game at the time.
In closing I say isn't it time that Cleveland shines brighter than a ice sickle tree branch in the middle of January, can we as fans say it's our time, well fear not because the Browns finally have pieces in place and cash to spend, the Indians have a great coach with a Cy young winner, and MVP candidate, and as for the Cavaliers the king has returned home, so fans smile because we are about to turn infamous to famous.

  1. Hey Bryce,

I think your blog was very good and I can see the frustration in the post about the Ohio teams. I think every city has a bit of that, not everyone can always be winners, every state/ city has those years in the slum and some more than others. I think the Cleveland Browns need a few years before they can actually be a well rounded team, lack of defense can destroy a team, and of course you need better receivers/ running backs. I do love the Ohio Buckeyes, and I have several Friends that go to that school and the fact the you won a title this year is incredible and well deserved. Hopefully this is a sign that things will get better along with LeBron coming back to the Cavaliers.
Great Blog post really enjoyed it.

  2. Oh how I feel your pain!

I am from Buffalo, NY and being from Cleveland I'm sure you know how real the struggle is for our sports teams as well. (Bills last playoff appearance being in 1999 and the Sabres having a sad 33 pts this season with 34 losses and 15 wins) I loved in your blog how you talked about as a community you come together whether its win or lose. It nice to see how similar Buffalo and Cleveland are and how we are just waiting for our time to shine and we constantly reassure ourselves that "This is our year!" I wish you and your teams the best of luck in the future! Great blog I really enjoyed it!

  3. I completely understand the disappointment because I' am a Atlanta sports fan. Watching sport as much as do and see all these other team beat us. For example this year the Falcon didn't make the playoffs, but I can have hope since the Hawks are looking

  4. I can see your stand point very well! Living in a house full of rivaling teams it would often be hard to pick a team no matter if they were winning or losing but when I did chose I would be crushed when we would lose each game. But I always end up in search for hope and put faith in my teams seeing as how they sometimes pull through at the end.
